Ugh! No more cold!

Today as I waited 15 minutes in the freezing cold for the next train because I barely, and I do mean barely, missed th one before and then felt the arctic blast of cold every time the door opened, I couldn't help thinking fondly of spring. I can't wait for the time when it's green outside again instead of white and gray. When it's more than 10 degrees and there's no more white stuff on the ground.

Basically, I'm sick of the cold! I hate, hate, hate being cold. And I don't like the pollution in the air either. I'm not outside enough to claim that it's necessarily having any effect on my cold, but the air is extremely dirty. One of my friends put her Facebook status the other day that she felt like wearning a mask when she went outside. I'm thinking that's not such a bad idea. . .

I hate to say it, but I'm to the point where I want it to snow because it'll have to warm up and the air won't be dirty anymore! I think on Sunday that I might get my wish, which is exciting! I know, I know I see the irony of that statement too. I whine about the snow just as much as anybody else, but in this case I'd welcome it. I guess we'll see what happens in the next few days.

Until then, here's to hoping I can stay warm! Spring is getting closer . . .

Still not ready. . .

Since I live in Utah and it's definitely a winter state (our state motto isn't "the greatest snow on earth" for nothing now is it?), I always know that eventually the weather is going to turn cold and there will be white flakes falling from the sky at some point.

But that doesn't stop me from hoping it'll be later rather than sooner. Or that it'll come at a time when I don't have to go drive around in it.

Alas, my wish is not usually granted. And I have been spoiled by relatively mild winters for the last two years, so I can't complain too badly. When we did have a pretty bad winter a couple of years ago I actually got pretty good at driving in it too.

But I still found myself feeling distressed when I walked outside this morning only to discover about 4 inches of snow on top of my car. * Sigh * I had heard snow was in the forecast this week but secretly hoped they were wrong, as they often are. Such was not the case. But I swept said snow off my car and headed my merry way on to the train, glad that I didn't have to drive all the way into downtown. I was sure the freeway would be clear, but it's amazing how people magically forget how to drive in it at the first snowstorm of the season.

One of the difficult things about living in the suburbs I realized today is that down south often gets more snow than downtown. That's going to be something I'll have to live with this winter. But, I'm a tough girl so I know I can handle it, even if I choose not to like it. Luckily winter doesn't last forever here like it did in Rexburg. There's something to be happy about. :)

Snow boots?

So yesterday we got hit with a pretty big snowstorm. It wasn't a surprise as it's been in the forecast for a couple of days at least. However, the snowstorm presents some concerns aside from slick roads and cold weather.

This is a picture of what my feet looked like as I walked from my building to the parking garage. Don't worry--I have no illusions about how awesome the look really is.

I have to do this because I have short legs, and short legs equals pants that are too long. If I don't do something, they drag on the sidewalk and get stiff with all the salt they collect. It's pretty nasty. Last week I tried to prevent this by stuffing my pants into my shoes, but, alas, they wouldn't stay . So yesterday I was determined not to protect my pants, so I did this instead.

I'm pretty sure this means I'm in serious need of some snow boots. Wouldn't you agree?
